The Muslim burial demonstrates in all its clarity what the Christian declares as “Vanity Upon Vanity".
Vanity of wealth
Vanity of power
Vanity of worldly possessions and
Vanity of LIFE
In the Muslim faith, once a man or woman dies, he or she has no business again on earth.
Why keep him or her?
Muslims perform their burial within the next 24 hours or where there are valid reasons as in the case of ex-President Buhari, the burial could be delayed.
This practice stems from the Islamic tradition that views the body as needing to be returned to the earth as soon as possible to avoid delaying the deceased's journey to the afterlife and to prevent any potential disrespect or indignity.
The simplicity in the Muslim burial rite and practice amplifies the message that we came into the world with nothing and will go back without nothing.
It also demonstrates the fact that we are only useful on earth as long as we are still breathing.
While this is a common message that death communicates to humans, the Muslim burial rites demonstrate a more realistic demonstration of it.
No elaborate burial planning
No golden coffins/caskets
No asoebi
No decorative burial venue
No casket bearers.
No brass band, DJ, or live band
No too much protocols.
I do not even know if they cook all those elaborate food at their burial or offer guests exotic drinks and water.
It becomes clearer why many adherents of the Muslim faith are contented (even when he or she has no too much money). I believe this is what the religion preaches, even when we know it is not every Muslim that abides by these beliefs and standards set by the faith! Even in the Christian faith, not everyone abides by the Biblical Standards.
The burial of former President Buhari is a reminder to every one of us, Christian or Muslim that we all came here with nothing and will leave with nothing. I love how the Muslim burial emphasizes this particular message.
Again, I believe he had his plans and interests in the 2027's election, only to pass on before then. This is also a reminder that no one knows tomorrow as tomorrow is never assured or promised.
Live your best life every day! Think deeply, Stay humble.
RIP General Muhammadu Buhari
