A Lagos based prominent lawyer and business man, Chief Andrew Oru LLB (Hons.) B.L, CMC, FIMC has been considered fit and proper to be honoured with a doctorate degree by his alma mater, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

In a letter signed by the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Oguejiofo Ujam, stated that the Governing Council and the Senate of the University have approved that Oru be awarded the Degree of Doctor of Public Administration, DPA (Honoris Causa). The Degree will be conferred on the Lagos socialite during the 54th Convocation ceremony of the University scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

Born on November 10, 1960, the legal luminary and business mogul hails from Delta State. He attended Government College, Ughelli, 1973-77; Advanced College, Igueben, Edo State, 1977-78; University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu Campus, 1983; Nigerian Law School, 1984. He established Oru and Co Chamber in 1984. Oru is a Director of Aiteo, and chairman of Rojitel and several other companies. Aiteo is an energy conglomerate. It is a full-spectrum, integrated energy company involved in various aspects of the oil and gas industry, including exploration and production, storage, marketing, distribution, and power generation.

Barr. Oru is Chairman Delta Peace initiative; National Coordinator, Delta Elders Council; Member Nigerian Bar Association; International Bar Association; Security Exchange Commission. He has received several awards and honours including Award for Excellence in Corporate Legal Practice, by University of Nigeria Law Students, 1997; Niger Delta Development Merit Award. He has also received the Chieftaincy title of Egberode of Ughelli Kingdom and is a member of Ikoyi Club, 1938; Rotary Club of Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos. Indeed, he is one the cap fits.
